I have a juvenile chinese fire belly newt in a 5.5 gallon tank with floating live plants a cave and a small turtle bank for its land area. where i bought it they housed them with fire belly toads and the water conditions were bad so when i first got it it was stressed and wouldnt go in the water, now that it has calmed down and started staying in the water full time ive not been able to get it to eat. ive tried waxworms and frozen/thawed bloodworms and newt pellets. i dont know what to do please help.

Keep trying with the frozen bloodworms, and also try finely-chopped earthworms. If you have a healthy pond nearby, you might try netting some daphnia (water fleas) or other live food. Your newt came from the wild and has never seen non-live non-moving food before. Forget the pellets.

after trying for about a week it finally ate the bloodworms today

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
