Cleaning sand?

I have a gravel vac and every once a week i do a water change. I hover the gravel vac over the sand to suck up the **** thats sitting on top. I use a turkey baster every dayh to suck up soem more **** that i see
How do you keep your sand looking clean as at the mo it seems real hard to do so!

Maybe you can think of a better word than the one you are using to describe fecal matter? Like say, detritus, feces, poop or waste? There are many synonyms for the word that don't need to be censored out. Many people on this forum speak English as a second language and being clear and precise with our writing helps them and every other person to understand you.

I don't keep Axolotls, but I keep my sand clean by doing exactly what you do; regular water changes using a gravel vacuum and sucking out any additional waste with a turkey baster. I consider this to be a very small amount of effort to keep my newts happy.

Also take into account the size of the tank, the number of animals, the quality of the filter, and the amount they eat. You can reduce the amount of "detritus, feces, poop or waste" by having a larger tank, fewer animals, a bigger filter, or feeding them less. Axolotls are messy animals, there's no avoiding it.

Thats cool! Ive added a second filter into the tank to see if that was a cause of the fungus on one of the axies...hopefully itll improve!
