Kia ora and greetings.

My adult axie Hendrix has started climbing/swimming to the tops of the plants in his aquarium. He will sit in the tops for ages before dropping of floating to the bottom and repeating the whole exercise.

This puts him about 4" below the water line. He also swims up and down the tank at the same level. He does spend time at the bottom of his tank as well.

Should I be getting him a platform/rock at that level of the tank or just leave him to do his thing.

Does anyone have any idea why he may have started this behaviour. It looks really cool but im wondering if there may be a cause and if so what?

Cheers

Ian

axies love plants and playing and sleeping in them. its normal. sometimes they pull the plants out lol (cute)

mine absolutely loves to do that! he can sit on there all day! he also loves to pull out the plants so i have to replant them every day. dont worry, your axie is normal!;)

Choice no panic then.

Thanks

My two lurk in the weeds. I go to look at them and can't see them, so panic sets in then I notice two strange looking leaves that turn out to be them. My daughter thinks they want to be flowers when they grow up.

I have a son who wants to be a flower when he grows up.

Thanks Jay Hes in a new habitat so I guess hes just finding cool new places that he didn't have in the last tank and theres no worries.

Flowers rock...Maddy is toying with being an axolotl fairy.....

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
