If you have good water pressure, you could purchase a "python no spill clean and fill" to vacuum your gravel with. I have used them for years. Do a google search for it for more info.
Since your tank is new and your gravel was adding to clouding your water a little it sounds like... I was wondering if you had presoaked/rinced your gravel in clean cold water before putting it in the tank? I usually soak new gravel in a bucket with frequent rinsing for 2 or 3 days before putting it in a tank. Even though the gravel says "will not cloud water" it usually does.
