Wilds have a gold ring around their eye, melanoids lack this quality and is all black eyes. They also lack iridophores, which are shiny reflective gold splodges 
. I would say yours is a wild but not sure can't really see his eyes. They look kinda green. And his gills are outrageous!

oh yes! I apologize, I also know he is a GFP. I don't see any gold rings, would that be because of the GFP?
I will try to get a better picture and yes her (I'm hoping) gills are freaking amazing! they have grown a ton since I got her and are now curling over!

Like I said, probably a wildtype, but take a small flashlight and shine it over the axolotl's body. Sometimes direct light is the only way to really see iridophores, but honestly I've never seen a melanoid with that kind of coloring.

Well, I don't see a gold ring in the eyes but I certainly can see some iridophores on the gills with this led flashlight I have, along with can see who's GFP and who's not, this is awesome!
