I've picked up a few peices of what I beleive to be Common Moss... not sure though, it was growing on the side of my drive-way. I'm pretty sure it's of the Order Polytrichales. However I don't know if that makes any difference(don't know a thing about moss).
Basically I'm wondering if it would be compatible with an Ambystomatid? In particular A. Gracile.

Any advice would be appreciated, Thanks,
Ian

Re: Common Moss comaptibility?

A photo would be helpful if you want to identify it.
I would be hesitant to use moss collected from your driveway...it might carry polutants or even heavy metals (or so i´ve heard about mosses from populated areas).

Re: Common Moss comaptibility?

I live in a relatively remote country area, so I'm not sure there is much polution. There is also Lichen eerywhere so I'm fairly sure that's a good indication. I'm just trying to get something to spruce up the tank and make it more natural.
The only picture I can get is with a web cam.... and I'd imagine all you could see is green.
Here's pretty much what it looks like -

Re: Common Moss comaptibility?

I´m by no means good at identifying mosses, and specially since it´s not even a european species i´m just throwing a wild assumption, but it doesn´t look like any kind of Polytrichum i´ve ever seen.
Are any kind of pesticides, or chemicals used in the area? I would still be inclined to use another moss source....specially because a drive-way is...well.....used by cars hehe.

Good point lol. I'm just wondering if it is OK to use if it were clean. I've pretty much narrowed it down to this - Silver Moss Bryum Argentium
Can't find anything on how it would be with Salamanders though.
