Communicable fish diseases/parasites

Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I am tired of getting hammered, just relaying information to you or any one else,
that might be helpful. I don't care if you or anyone one feeds their Axies this
or anything else. It is good info to know. The decision is yours. I would love to
use them if I knew the absortion rate of the animal, correlated to how many.
Also you may want to consider that feeder fish will peck the Axies gills. The fungus issue...
I definitely culture your own because Axies can get fungus. Fish get fungus.
Fish get parasites. Axie can get parasites. Here is three links with a little info.

  • Bacteria producing Thiaminase have been found in Guppies - Poecilia reticulata.

  • However small amounts of these foods are safe if only fed occasionally,
  • say once a week, and as part of a varied diet.

To Ashneider: axolotls can get ich, for example, although they seem less prone to it than fish are. And of course guppies can carry ich. Guppies that are from the pet store can also carry any bacteria or viruses they have been exposed to in their transport process through various wholesalers and suppliers. If you want a list of the bacterial and viral infections that amphibians are susceptible to, I'd recommend getting a copy of Wright & Whitaker's Amphibian Medicine book. In theory, most could be acquired from pet shop feeder fish.

According to the best expert I know on amphibian nutrition, guppies are quite acceptable as amphibian food, provided that the guppies are bred yourself, so you know they haven't picked up anything infectious along the way.
