Concern

I have a leucistic 6 month old Axolotl who inhabits an 11 Gallon custom made aquarium. I believe they're female, but I suppose that's irrelevant.

I'm concerned about something white and black that appears gritty and subcutaneous on my Axolotls gills.

However, she seems healthy, active, behaving normally and eating well. I'm concerned there may be some type of bacterial or fungal growth beneath her skin in her gills.

Please focus on the area at the base of the gills: one can see black, gritty looking veins stemming through the gills. At the very base, where the gills meet her head you can see sort of white/greyish colouring that looks some what like mould. That is what I'm concerned about. The black patterns have been there for quite some time, but the white stuff is about a week old.

Any ideas? Have you seen this before?

I can't see anything wrong. Looks like a happy healthy axie. Leucistics sometimes have almost black gills and white spots, it's all normal coloring.

i am in no way an expert but i have seen pictures of leuc with dark gills. Also when i got my leuc i was worried about the dark spots on her face. i was informed tht dark patches and dots are common for them, so it might just be pigmentation. however i do understand ur worry and as i said im no expert so u might wanna do some research and see wht other people on this site say as well
