So I have two Axolotls, a wild type that was born in March 2020 (according to the breeder) and a GFP Lucy that was born in January 2020 (according to its breeder). I got them from different breeders but my wild type is almost double the size of my Lucy despite being two months younger. Anyone know why that might be? For measurements my wild is around 7in and quite bulky (not fat just got larger) and my Lucy is barely 5 and super skinny.

It could be any number of things, including something as simple as genetics. I have one axolotl born in October 2019 that is smaller than my own axies that were born in December 2019. I also have siblings from the same clutch that range from 4 inches to 7 inches. Some just grown faster than others and/or will end up different sizes as adults. As long as they are eating properly and are otherwise healthy, I wouldn't worry about it.

There are lots of factors

The average growth rate is approx 1" per month for about the first 5-6 ish months.

Sounds like your wild type is an over acheiver

Genetics, diet, upbringing prior to leaving breeder, and sex which you of course will not know for a while. Males are longer and more slender while females and shorter and wider.

What do you feed? and how often?

The wild type has been receiving two pan fish worms a day and Iv only recently cut him back to one since his growth has slowed down. The Lucy just arrived in the mail a few days ago and according to the info I received has been getting salmon pellets and brine shrimp. Since then Iv been trying to ease her into panfish worms by giving her pellets in the morning and a half of a panfish worm at night.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
