My baby is roughly a year old, he is in a 29 gallon setup with no substrate and on a diet of earthworms and pellets, and I have fed him a couple of crickets. I have noticed that my boy has not pooped in quite some time I thought perhaps he had been stepping on it and it was disappearing into the water so I have done 50 and 75% water changes. His perimeters are fine and his temperature is below 64°. He takes spurts where he swims somewhat frantically in the corners of his aquarium and his tail has been persistently pink for the last 2 days. This morning my wife brought to my attention that his hind end was swollen I've done research and from what I have read it leads toward constipation. I don't know what has caused it and I'm not sure what to do as I have never put him in the refrigerator. And I don't know if I should or not as I have read only to do that in a life or death situation. He seems to be uncomfortable as he cannot sit still I am extremely worried about him and where I live I cannot take him to a vet because he is illegal in my state. Can someone please tell me what to do or make a suggestion again I am very worried about my little boy feedback is greatly appreciated.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
