my juvenile (about 5 inch) axie has had a swollen cloaca for around 5 days now. i’ve been noticing that half of the time, there is also poop hanging out of it. i do have very fine sand in the tank but it has never been an issue. i’m wondering if it could be impaction. my axie is eating and not floating, but i’m pretty concerned with it’s constipation. since it has been sick like this for almost a week now, should i fridge it to be safe?

update: i just fridged him.i caught him dry heaving with his butt up in the air, so i knew it was serious. can anybody explain to me the process beyond this? i’ve never had to fridge him before.

how deep is the sand?
if he/she is gagging then they have ingested something they don't like.
when he/she defecated what did it consist off (I ask this question based of your other open post) this can be a indicator as to any sand impaction.

half of his poop looked normal, but the other half looked like white strings.

sounds like his/her diet, there are numerous posts on this forum with the same stool type issues.

if you don't feed it pellets you should try some, they are designed to aid digestion. Feed only axolotl pellets for a few days and it might help out. if it doesn't help, consider calling up a vet.
