Gorgeous ... I'm green with envy. :D

Where did you locate your crested newts, if I might ask? Were they a one-time thing at your local pet store, did you order them online, or did you ask the pet store to order them for you?

That's great—so the forums are a good way to get just the right species of newt, captive bred and not wild-caught?

so i guess in the Netherlands Crested Newts arent as heavily protected as they are in britain then?

these are an other kind of crested newt than we have in nature. In UK and the Netherland we have the triturus cristatus crested newt.

The ones Hugo Keeps is the triturus dobrogicus crested newt. They do not live in the Dutch nature

Hi,

All my crested newts are captive bred.
And, Rob, besides the T.Dobrogicus, the pictures also show some, T. carnifex, T. karelinii and T. karelinii Kaukasus.

Indeed the T.cristatus are not allowed to keep in the Netherlands, but i guess i have a great alternative with these species.

Hugo, lovely newts:)

Ashley, it's probably out of the question to ship them overseas, and also probably unnecessary. Try posting a "wanted" ad for the species you are interested in. There are several reputable US breeders of crested newts, and many hobbyists end up with excess as they breed like rabbits. As you are in Florida, you might want to consider more temp-tolerant species, or else you need a good reliable AC system.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
