Now do i need to do small water changes with that tank daily? The only thing i added is the water conditioner. She has got about 20 litres of water in the plastic tank. Thank you.

Great news.... we have been able to put Snowhite in a cycled tank, my hubby took the goldfish out we did all the tests and the tank is fine, so the fish are in a holding tank till sat.The tank readings were...ph 7.4 ammonia 0 nitrite 0 nitrate 5. This tank has been going since last october. Snowhite seem happier. (hubby should of thought of this earlier!!!

That sounds great! Um just don't let your goldfish suffer if their holding tank is uncycled! (I'm sure you won't tho :D )

Hi Kapo, the fish are with our neighbour who has a huge tank! he has had it for years. I will check on them today.

We never thought of using the fish tank before as it is so small it's only 1 foot long but it will do till the nitrite drops. At least this tank is cycled for Snowhite. May have to put Charlie in their also, as he is showing signs of stress, it will be a tight fit for both of them as he is so big!

I have taken Charlie out of his tank and put him in the cycled tank with Snowhite, my question is ...now that Charlie's old tank is empty do i need to do small water changes or leave it and just wait for the tank's nitrite level to drop?? Having no animals in the old tank will this effect the cycling??? after almost 9 weeks i don't want to muck things up at this late stage. As the readings are ph 7.2 ammonia 0 nitrite 2 nitrate 10. Sorry about all the questions but i don't want to have to go through all this again. Thank you.

Stop the waterchanges on that tank since there are no axies in it. The waterchanges are just to keep any levels relatively safe while your axies are in it.

As the other tank is a small one, test that one to keep an eye on the parameters while Charlie and Snowhite are in it, and if need be do waterchanges.

Thank you Kapo, tested the water this am,it's good ,will keep checking the sml tank everyday and if need be i'll do small water changes. Do you know how long it takes for the nitrite to come down after ammonia has reached 0, as this small tank is not suitable for both of them, but it's better than them getting ill from nitrite being too high.

Sorry, really can't give you a exact answer, mine varied on all our tanks (seemed like ages on our 8 week cycling tank to come down, considering the ammonia dropped pretty fast).

Thanks Kapo, the small tank's readings are great! poor Charlie he takes 3 steps and he is at the other side of the tank. They are both eating well so thats a good sign. ( i hope)

I will keep you posted as to the nitrite reading in the other tank.Thank you for your help.

Kapo, i have another ? for you....when the tank has cycled do i just put Charlie and Snowhite back or do i need to do a small water change first then put them back? Thankyou.

Do a small waterchange before putting them back in. Usually you stagger them when they go in, say Charlie first - monitor the tankwater then say 5-7 days later add Snowhite.

Hi Kapo, update.... the nitrite readings are the same 2, it takes for ever for it to come down, had to go to the pet store to get some new test kits, the guy there said it won't come down as there is nothing in the tank for the bacteria to feed on and that i will have to start all over again (i think he is wrong) so i am not doing anything. Charlie and Snowhite are still eating well. They don't move around as much as when they were in their big tank, but that is understandable! they are in a much smaller tank. Please advise if that guy is right or wrong. Thank you.

If you're cycling in a separate tank, throw in some more bits of food. This will help speed that nitrite reading to come down.

Nitrite is now at 1, it's come down a little, i haven't done anything yet, i will just wait it out. Thanks.

Hi Kapo, i am having no luck trying to get this tank to finish cycling. I have had to put Charlie & Snowhite back in their big tank. I just cracked the glass on the small tank. I did a small water change before i put them back. The readings were ph 7.2, ammonia 0, nitrite o.5o, and nitrate 10, but that was after the water change before that, nitrite was 1, Gosh i hope they will be ok. I am just having no luck!!!. Now that they are back in the big tank shall i start doing small water changes daily again?? I could just cry!!!!

HI all, well Charlie & Snowhite seem to be doing well, they both ate this am, checked the water. The nitrite is still 1, so i did a small water change, i will keep going with this till i hear different from one of you guys. All other readings are fine.(as above) Thank you.

Well it is 10 weeks today and we are still not done, the nitrite is down to 0.50 which is good, the ammonia is 0, ph 7.2,nitrate is down to 5 that was at 10. Is that supposed to happen ??( i did add 4 more plants). Snowhite loves to play in the plants, Charlie likes to rock climb, they are both eating well. Thankyou.

I think the tank is nearly done... the nitrite is down to o.25, So once we reach 0 it is cycled!!!!
