cool pictures! Thanks for sharing this. Also great info on local habitat for this newt.

Thanks Ester.

It's not uncommon, by the way, for C. ensicauda to lay their eggs while upside-down

(corrected link)

It seems they may lay eggs year-round in the wild as we found gravid females, males with tail sheens, and larvae even in June.

very nice! Looks like a bueatiful spot too. i really should come to japan to go newting sometime.

Hey Tim! Again, great pics of animals in action! Just wonderful. I have seen my C.o. female lay eggs in an upside down position also (at first I thought she was dead!).

The areas you visit are beautiful also. I bet you never get tired of finding newts!!! Thanks

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
