Is any body breeding Japanese Firebelly newts (cynops pyrrhogaster sasayama) or has a suggestion on who may have some to give away or trade? I have two females form 2001 but no males. I would love to breed them again.

I have a 2:3 group of sasayama newts that are about 6 years old and I have never had any luck getting them to breed. Any tips?

Have you observed the color changes with the male and any mating behavior of the male? I only bred them in 1988, 1989, and 2001. I have always kept mine aquatic The key was to keep them pretty cold for a few weeks in the winter (January / February). Usually a frost free but cold area of the house like a cold room in the basement. Beyond that I didn't do anything special. Raising the metamorphs is a bit challenging as reported by others but it sounds like that is a question for another day.
