Why do you think that P. archospotus is actually Pachytriton D? This new species does not look like, nor in colour as in size, to the P. "D" that I saw some years ago.

I'm just confused by the photos in the PDF of the original paper. Are the small ones and large ones both archospotus?

Very large, I'd say between 25 and 30 cm, almost rusty-metal, orange coloured. A bit like the yet to be described Paramesotriton species.

Its difficult to ID without locality data! I'm still not sure if the salamanders from Hunan are the old "D".
