Hey I'm trying to get my first set-up going for an axolotl, and I had some concerns about the water temperature.

The water temperature in the tank has been max 71.6 F and min 66 F. The temperature currently cycles like this daily as the AC system also cycles depending on the time.

Question: Are daily temperature fluctuations like this likely to stress out the potential axolotl?

Thanks for the info!

Yep fluctuations are really stressful for them. You could try setting a fan on the surface of the water when the a/c is off, monitor that and see if it keeps it a fairly constant temp. Alternatively a chiller will be easier but more expensive

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
