Darnedest thing I ever found in a terrarium

Well this is just the craziest thing I've ever found in any of my terrariums. Looks like it's time for a substrate change!

I like it when mushrooms pop up in my vivariums. I agree though, it's usually time to clean things up.

Are mushrooms bad for amphibians? I relize that they are a fungus, but don't they exist in amphibian habitats in the wild? They look cool.

Don't remove them. Leave them in there for the salamanders to eat. I've heard Taricha are especially partial to mushroom. :tongue:

Haha. I just found one in mine too! I agree time for a cleaning!
As for weather or not they are bad for amphibians, I doubt it, but this is the first time I've ever sprouted a mushroom in one of my tanks after years of keeping vivariums.

Lol, i never had a big mushroom. It was always the tiny, extremely short-lived types that randomly popped up in my tanks.

Here in Florida where I live we only have two "types" of mushrooms outside of the supermarket. Poisonous and hallucinogenic. We avoid them like the plague. Well... most of us do anyway.

They say mushrooms are a sign of a health system but in such a small system I wouldnt risk compromise. Out of all the fungi I have seen I dont think thats one of them either.
