Day or Night?

Is it better to feed newts in the morning or at night? When I first got my eastern newts i let them rest during the afternoon and fed them around 6 or 7pm and they ate. I have tried the last two days to feed them in the morning and they seem turned off by the concept of food. I know they are a more nocturnal species... so would it be better to feed them at night?

I've never had any issues feeding my sals during daylight hours. But then again, I keep mine in the basement where at it's brightest it's a modest twilight...away from the reptiles' lamps of course.
