How long does water have to sit before it becomes dechlorinted on its own? Is that water safe to use for water changes or should I just use store bought dechlorinator?

You can use the drops, they also help remove other containments from the water, but if you want, just leave the water sitting for at least 48-72 hours.

Hi Kendall,

It is safest to use a dechlorinator with water changes. Leaving the water to stand will allow chlorine to dissipate but leave chloramines behind. In addition, the rate of chlorine dissipation is variable to ambient temperature and so a defined time length is difficult to predict. A dechlorinator will effectively remove chlorine, chloramines and can help detoxify the water. Some can also remove heavy metals.

Cheers.

Also keep in mind- both municipal and well water contain other stuff that is harmful to caudates. Copper is usually one of the biggest offenders along with chloramines and ammonia. A good all in one drop like Prime or Amquel+ is the safest route to go.

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
