So 2 days ago i brought 3 juvi/adult 2 are 13cm long and both have very weird front legs and the other is perfectly normal.

the first is the smallest girl, she is about 13cm both her front legs are almost completely missing, and are only about 1 cm long, if that, and have fully formed toes on the end of the tiny legs. she can only use one front "hand" and the other she doesn't have any movement in, i have watched her for hours and the hand just seems to flop around in the water almost more like a tail on the end of her tiny leg but its fully formed with fingers, also she is sexually mature because she does have black dots on each of her toe's even the deformed looking one's. when she moves along the tank, she sorta scoots along the sand pushing her self with her normal back legs. she can swim, but doesnt seem to swim much just really scoots everywhere and has trouble getting in-between some of the plants in the tank, but she does make it after a little while. her gills are normal and her tail isn't curled so i think she is fully happy, also she's a great eater!

the second one is the male, he has one normal looking leg, right length but has 5 toes then a further up toe bud that's almost like a 5th front toe, then on the other side he has all 4 toes all grown into each other you can see them clearly but they have formed all together. he has use of his "5 toed hand" but his other hand just seems to drag along slightly stiff as he walks along the bottom of the tank. but he does alot of swimming around , very active and has been leaving spermatophore's all over the tank witch i have been removing because if they are deformed im worried there baby's might be deformed and or, the female might become unhealthy if breed at such a young age, as i don't think she is old enough yet, despite the black toes, as you are meant to wait until they are fully grown before mating.

i couldn't get a clear pic of the female and the pic of the male i got wasn't much better

but here are some pics, first is the girl, very unclear to see her hands... second is the boy's squished looking hand, and third is the boys 5 toed hand, that you cant really see =/

so id really like to know what people think of these 2, do you think they are deformed? and what stages does a limb go though when growing back? could it possibly be they are growing back limbs? and if it is, could they just be growing them back poorly?
and insight would be great thanks :)

Re: Deformed Axolotl's ?... I Think They Have Deformed Legs

As far as I can see the second picture looks like a leg that's growing back (more like a miniature 'hand'). I have an axie with a leg that's growing back after it got bitten off (evil creatures sometimes) and it looks pretty much the same.

About extra toes, it might look weird but most of the time they won't have problems with it.
My axie has a toe growing on top of his toe (see picture).
Those imperfections make them cute.
(On the second picture is my axie with 'clumped' toes on his left front leg, he had no problems with it).

Sometimes things will grow back in a slightly wrong way. Maybe the legs were perfect before you bought them, got bitten off and started to regrow a little different, like on the last picture. So I don't think the babies will become deformed. :D

Re: Deformed Axolotl's ?... I Think They Have Deformed Legs

When my lights are on I'll get pics of my axis feet.
They have the craziest feet :O they were bitten off before I got them and they grew back funny. One has what looks like 2 feet growing together. That foot has 6 toes. One has a foot that has 2 toes. They don't always grow back perfectly.

They are all fine and healthy.

i thought that may of been the case! that's makes me feel alot better i was so worried they might be deformed and have health problems later on in life when they grow bigger, i was thinking oh god i hope they grow up right. iv never had experience with regrowing limbs or anything like that so i really did believe they were deformed because they were so weird! and it all makes sense because the male does have a massive bite out of his tail as well. so... it should be ok if they mate? i mean like i already have 215 eggs, 32 due in a few days to hatch.... lol so i don't really want more.. haha i might have to separate them if its not already to late, i have already caught her sitting over a spermatophore...

lol does anyone want any golden albino cross golden albino egg's? haha :D

One of my axies also has two toe tips from one finger and she has a Y shaped gill lol.

So long as they are healthy and can manage then I wouldn't worry about it.
