Hello all,

I saw a poll on faces, but I was thinking, many axolotls, have different limbs.

I have known for ages that one of Sunnys eyes bulges slighty more than the other. Also his front left foot has long toes whilst the right one has little webbed ones.
His gills have been attacked at some stage and one has the filaments growing the whole way aroing the gill.

Only tonight, I noticed that Sunnys back right foot has 4 toes whilst the other has 5!

I'd love to hear of everyone elses Axolotls strage toes, or funny limbs etc =]

I've got an axolotl with no eyes. And a big 'spot' on top of her head. It's perfectly round, and significantly darker than the rest of her. It looks like a mole. Maybe I should name her Cindy Crawford.

Sounds like a great name for an axolotl. lol.

I can't seem to find any oddities on my Axie-- that is, other than his appetite.
But no one is perfect, including axolotls. (i suppose )

One of my axxies has a tiny little 5th toe in between the others on one of his front feet.

One of my lovely wildtypes has her front leg hinged the wrong way (the foot is turned up, rather than down). This looks quite bizarre when she waddles along, as the leg does a strange rotation completely out of synch with the other legs - but this doesn't slow her down any. She's always first to the worms .

A lot of times deformities are just the results of amazing regeneration powers and a bit of nibbling by conspecifics at an early age. Extra toes, odd numbers of toes and more happen a lot.

Just recently here on the forums we have seen photos of extra gills, a forked gill, and one really interesting specimen with a spare tail growing at a 45 degree angle out of the top of it's normal tail.

As for deliberate genetic abnormalities, I have read of lab strains with three, four, and six toes. There used to be a long toe strain around too.

My axolotl Lexi has a deformed eye.

Its like a bump over whare her eye should be was like this when i got her :angel:

Check out the difference between Sunnys eyes and his two front feet (the toes). His gills are all weird to haha.

My leucistic has had wee circular bobbles on the ends of his toes, or random scraps of skin, up until recently. His back leg was also stumpy as a baby, he's pointy toed and proportioned now though.
Also my spotty leucistic has his two middle toes fused in a permanent crossed over way. His other front foot is also lacking a toe.

my little golden albino Dharma has only 1 toe on her front right foot, but she seems to be just fine. Sometimes she even uses it to hold the worms down and eat them, kinda like a parrot. her tail is also mottled with a creamy white and two of her gills are stuck together
