Hey gang,

Here's a little preview of a new tank I'm working on. It's inspired by the 80's NES game "Metroid" and made almost entirely out of recycled materials:

I'm still doing all the rough building, this is just a test fit. The finished tank will have a lot more detail, with plumbing for the filters and air lines as well as submersible LEDs.

Martin, you can't post photobucket photos here. You can post them directly from your computer or put them in the gallery or an album on your profile and link to that.

We play a lot of NES around here (although I have to be honest and say that even though we have 2 NES consoles, we are missing cords and controllers, so we play on the computer) . I never thought of theming a tank around any games! Takes me way back... I like it!

Test fit for a 29g tank (original plan was a 20L). If I can't figure out something cool to do with the clear space at the top I may go back to the 20L.

Also turned the lights of so you can see Mother Brains eyes. I plan on adding 2 more blue submersible LEDs to spotlight the interior, since they'll make the gfp axolotls i plan on putting in here glow.

woah this is awesome, at first I thought the equipment you were using was called "metriod" and then I realized it was the game! So amazing ha, I can't wait to see what it turns out like. Keep updating progress :p

Is this going to be a planted tank or just strictly metroid looking?

Also what are you thinking of keeping in here? Some "glow in the dark" (with black light) axolotls would complement the theme :p

Almost done!! Everything is painted and clear coated, just need to find some clear silicone to attach a few odds and ends and decorate, then time to fill and cycle:grin:

All done! The camera's flash makes it look pretty crappy, but in low light it looks pretty sweet:

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
