Disinfected sponge filter or no?

Hey so I may have made a cock up trying to disinfect my sponge filter I use for when my axie is tubbed.. I used bleach to clean one, I've rinsed the heck out of it but it still smells of bleach - side note I disinfected because she's had fungal infections recently that keep coming back, staying on top of water changes now but I'm apprehensive to use the disinfected sponge, should I use it or use the sponge filter that hasn't been disinfected yet?

put the sponge in a bucket of water with 5x strength dechlorinator and squeeze it through, then leave in the water overnight.

Leaving it out in the sun will help too.
