Do axolotls need a cycled tank?

I have been setting up a 29 gallon for an axolotl for about 4 weeks now. I am planning to move the fish inside of my 29 into a 55 gallon so that my axolotl can have the 29 all to itself. I am currently cycling the 55 so my fish can be comfortably moved into it. I came into contact with a breeder however and they told me that axolotls do not like or need a cycled tank. They are telling me to do 100% water changes everyday because axolotls like the clean water? Is this true? This goes against all the research I've done, I have always thought that axis need a cycled tank with 20% water changes weekly depending on the size of the tank. What are everyone's thoughts on this?

Doing 100% water changes is fine if you can be bothered with all the work. To say that axolotls don't "like" cycled tanks is clearly wrong, their natural environment is cycled. I know a couple of people who put this theory over and I'm amazed they can cross a road without being run over......

Due to some unforeseen circumstances, I've been doing this with my axolotl for a few months. It works just fine: she's healthy and eating and doing great. I'm sure she does like the clean water, but I feel like the constant netting and moving for the water changes is stressful. I definitely think a cycled tank would be a happier place for your axie.
