basic definitions here. A labeled newt might be a nice addition.

Dorsal: Referring to the top (or back) part of the animal. This would correspond to the spinal region.

Ventral: Referring to the belly of the animal

Caudal: Referring to the tail

Lateral referrs to the side of an animal. It also is used ad a descriptor for positioning and localization. ie the lesion is on the lateral surface of the _________, or the lesion is on the ________ just lateral to the __________.

Final definitons:
