Earth worm questions

I'm going to feed my axolotl's earth worms (I guess it is the same as rain worms as we say in Belgium).
They are about 4 inches big.
The pet store where I bought them didn't know how old they were.
Is 1 worm per day enough or to much?

I buy the worms in a local pet store, they sell insects for feeding reptiles.
How can I keep them?

In a closed jar with earth?

For the moment I feed them with frozen red bloodworms but it is not ideal.

Thanks a lot for the advice ;)

One worm per day is likely to be too much. However, what you should do is adjust the amount of food to what will keep them heathy but not overweight. If you see they get to big, just reduce the frequency with which you offer food.

You can keep worms alive for a very long time in the fridge in a container with an inch of substrate.
Alternatively, depending on the species, you can culture them easily in indoor or outdoor bins.

Chances are that you've got Dendrobeana Venteta, because they're selled a lot in the Benelux as bait and such. While they were groing I've fed my axies one of those each day without them getting obese.

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
