Yesterday, we just acquired (by way of my frog-loving 6-year-old son) an Eastern Newt in the red eft stage. It was walking in our garden where we had some mulch dumped and recently spread out. We also have tadpoles (wild caught, assuming green frogs) and yellow-spotted salamander larvae (newly hatched, about 3 weeks, just showing front legs). I know our pond has Pickerel in it, whereby making any newts, salamanders, frogs, tadpoles, etc. into tasty treats. What can we feed these guys? I have been giving the tapoles clumps of algae out of our 10-gallon fish tank (algae does have a purpose!) and doing water changes for the salamanders every other day (for all of the little 'food things' in the water). Does anyone have any GOOD sites for care sheets? (Although we have alot of tanks set up, these are my sons biology projects for their homeschooling.)
