Hi there,

I've only had my Axolotls for a little over three weeks and in this short time I've noticed that one eats substantially more than the other. I'm hoping that my Brown spotted one is just a fussy eater compared to my Leucistic one. My Leuscistic one seems to swallow everything that's wriggling in sight, whilst my Brown spotted one needs a little encouragement. He seems to only want either Blood Worms or Beef Heart; neither one like the pellets and he's not too fond of the meal worms.

I'm a little concerned that he may be sick if he's off his food. Funny thing is he appears to be behaving normally just like the other. He hasn't lost his colouring, nor is he floating at the top gasping for air. He has no other symptoms that I've read about such as the curved tail end or gills foward facing, both indicating stress as many of you would know. Curiously, his gills aren't as long compared to the leucistic one's. Am I beginning to freak out for no reason you think?

Also, would any of you verify how often I should be feeding them? The pet store owner says once a day. Although, I've read on here that adults should be fed every two to three days?

Hope you can all offer some helpful tips. It's been ages since I've been a parent. I was probably thirteen or fourteen the last time I owned any sort of aquarium animal haha.

Thanks,

Try getting some earthworms from bunnings - the live food might stimulate hunger.

Most seem to feed adults every other day - they'll eat more in summer than winter so if they take it & seem hungry no harm in giving it to them. The stomach should be as wide as the head so use that as a gauge if they need feeding up or if they are healthy weight less food.

Post some pics of your new additions & the tank. If you understand the ins & outs of tank cycles you're ahead already & keeping lots should be a breeze :)
