I was just wondering whether or not eco earth's coconut fiber would be sufficient by itself as a substrate for an Ambystoma opacum? I just bought some and was planning on mixing it with topsoil and sand. I can't find a suitable organic soil locally but the eco earth seems to be a good substrate by itself.

Thanks!

Use Coconut fiber and soil, mixed... if u have access to a clean organic top soil, I would use that... and mix it. I don't think sand is needed. Make sure the end result is not too acidic!

I want to use soil but the only ones i can find locally have peat in them. Is there any problem with just using eco earth?

Eco Earth dries out pretty quickly, and it doesn't hold its shape well.

I've had great luck using EarthGro brand topsoil. You can find it at Home Depot.
