Eek

It does seem like a strange thing to do, but the cold temp. will slow down her metabolism and give you more time to treat her.

I would use the lid and towel as Kapo advised, to avoid temp. fluctuations from the door opening and closing.

Yeah it does indeed, Ok I'll get started as soon as I can get some containers.

Thanks for all the help :) I'll keep you posted.

I also use the lid on, just in case one of them might flip out of the container while in the fridge! Bad enuf worrying/stressing about the axie illness/wellfare let alone whether it will end up in the veg container or back of the fridge. No idea whether it would happen, but I wouldn't like to chance it! Good luck finding the container and doing the saltbaths!

i am unsure if axies can get it but look into lymphocistis (sp). i think lymhpho is like little pimples that can burst. its highly contagious though i think and there isnt any cure as far as i know. im not totally up on it but thats what comes to mind when i think of lymhpo.

Looking into it, Sounds pretty ominous, Anyone else think of any input on this idea? The sites I have looked at say no cure, But don't mention lethality or anything, So does that mean that it comes and clears off again?

Still having problems with the fridge idea, Turns out the upstairs fridge is not big enough. I really need to start soon my Axie hasn't eaten for over a month! :-( Seems that the downstairs fridge won't go above 4 degrees for some reason, Not making things easy.

Thanks for the input. :)

if it is lympho its isnt curable (i think its viral?), its not deadly but it is very contagious. often the popped bumps will get bacterial inefctions in them which arent nice. i am unsure how lethal it is, i know of a friend who has a severum with it and its been alive for at least 3 years with it i think. i am unsure how often it flares up, im not too up on it. i have no idea if axies can get it but i know tropical fish can.

how big is the upstairs fridge? it only needs to be big enough to hold an icecream container or so depending on the size of your axie.

good luck!

I have strong doubts about it being Lymphocystis as this a strictly fish pathogen. This is because it is from the Lymphocystivirus family and are strictly fish pathogens. If by some bizarre chance the axolotl does have Lymphocystis then they only cure is to reduce the stress level of the animal which will cause the virus to regress however I strongly doubt that this is a correct diagnosis as it doesn't fit the disease description or progression and I cannot find any references to this virus infecting amphibians much less axolotls...

There are a number of different items that can case these symptoms ranging from spontaneous abscesses to infected wounds (aquired from a variety of sources) to encysted parasites aquired from a food source. The only way to tell what caused the bump would be to have it biopsied.

there ya go ;) told ya it wasnt very likely but at least now we know

Indeed, Sounds like it's not got it, And the lump has totally gone now, Still going to put her in the fridge however, She's been bombing around all over the place and then not moving for hours, also not eaten yet.

Also been finding lumps of.. stuff in the tank, Looks like regurgitated food, Obviously I removed them ASAP.

I have been trying to fit her in the fridge, And I have the containers, Now it's just a case of setting it all up and moving the goods from the fridge.

How odd :s what could have caused that(just being nosey)

Btw i like u because u like mettalica :p

Ooh people, After I've bunged the Axie in the fridge (Tomorrow, Being a pain to work out the temperatures and stuff) Then how do I know when to take her out again? When she starts eating again?

And what could be causing her to swim around so haphazardly? Stress?

And caused what Lorie? The crappy food stuff or the bump in the first place?

And thanks lol, I love them =D

Finally she's in the fridge! Don't take me for someone who cares not for the Axies but it was a pain sorting everything out, The temperature is around about 8-9 degrees (That's ok yeah?)

I heard that sometimes they can be 'unblocked' (If indeed blockages are the problem in question, Which I believe is the case with mine) But how will I know when she is 'unblocked'? Wait until she starts to eat again or should it be a specific period of time for a minimum until I consider returning her to her tank?

Thanks for the help =)

She'll either throw up bolus, or take a big poo. What do you think is the cause of the blockage?

Could have been water temperature and/or water quality (what are the parameters/readings of your tank water for ammonia/nitrite and nitrate) which can stress her/him out.

Good to know you've finally been able to sort out a container and fridge :D!

Sorry for the lateness of the reply, I thought the blockage was caused by gravel (I'm getting some sand in a few minutes I hope lol) Good news is my Axie appeared to throw up (Found green looking... stuff in the container), And also she has eaten again! I'm so chuffed!

Sorry Kapo I can't get results for the parameters, I used my last test strip on my upstairs tank, But I'll get some more and give the readings before I put her back in the tank with some nice new sand.

Anyone got any quick tips about how to prepare sand? I know I've asked in another thread but for some reason I can't find it =s

Many thanks! :D

For preparing sand , whack all of the sand into a pillow case and then run under a tap until the water runs clean .. make sure you move the sand around abit though just to be sure !! Good Luck !!

Cheers there Ste, I did it until it ran clear and I made sure to get in all the in betweeny bits lol, Happens that this sand is coral sand, The guy at the shop said it might take the Ph up a tiny bit, But this shouldn't harm Axolotls, Can anyone confirm before he (By the way I discovered after actually looking to find out that 'she' is a he lol) That it is safe to use and if anyone else has used it?

Many thanks.

As long as there are no jagged bits, coral sand is fine. It will raise your pH, but it will also make the water harder (which axolotls seem to prefer).

There are some 'larger' pieces of sand, (I.e. About one mil. width) Mixed in with the smaller 'normal' sized sand. But nothing like a lump of shell or anything that looks sharp, So it's all ok for him to him to return now! :D I'm so grateful to you people who have helped me and my axie!

Many thanks.

One tiny problem people, I saw him spitting out a lot of sand through his mouth and some through the openings behind his gills, Normal as he is new to sand? Or should I be concerned?

Thanks =)
