Hi,

Just after feeding my axie an earthworm and about 10 minutes after I realised he had regurgitated. Now he is gulping water, his mouth and whole body is expanding and contracting in and out as if you blow up a balloon and let the air out.

When I put my hand in he still plays with me and acts normally but, is he choking?
What should I do.

Many thanks

Axies can't choke. He has 'hiccups' due to regigitation - it will pass and he'll be fine.

Ah, thank goodness. Thank you for your help. I was worried in case he was in pain. That's twice he has regurgitated a worm, I think his eyes are bigger than his belly

He has 'hiccups' ... it will pass.
My axie also occasionally gets the hiccups, I assume from too greedily shovelling up his pile of leftover bloodworms from the floor in his 'feeding corner'. (Yes, I know - I've switched him to earthworms on advice from this site.) It does look very funny because it lifts him off his feet an inch or so, then he gently floats back to the tank floor again. Then hiccups again 15 or 20 seconds later. It usually resolves itself within five minutes or so. Interestingly, he only seemed to do it for the first week or 10 days we had him. Since then, I haven't seen it, although I only switched him to earthworms today (day 16 of owning Boris, the albino).
