Hi everyone. So I've owned my T.Kweichowensis for about 6 months now and I'm curious to find out how everyone else is housing them. I currently have him in a fully terrestial tank set-up with a soaking dish. He doesn't seem to use it and remains hidden in his cave most of the day.

How about yours?

Hey,

I would check out my older thread Caudata tanks in the photos and pictures of tanks etc.

Hey, thanks so much for the reply. Your tanks are fantastic. It's making me wonder if I should change my setup to more water. The only thing, however, is I do not see mine leave his cave, and he never uses his water dish. Curious, would he even use more water then?

As posted by multiple people in multiple other threads, T.kweichowensis and T.cf.kweichowensis are highly terrestrial. They like it DRY. If they don't go in the water, not much point in giving them more, unless you WANT them to get sick and die.

frogman posted a revised tank that's much more terrestrial in another thread. A look through the CC articles on terrestrial enclosures for other tylos will give you a good idea of the set up.

That's right. The tank was a mistake. Now mine are in a terrestrial tank withe a small water dish and are eating readily!!! i am so glad they improved and now i have my toads in a beautiful 10 gallon setup. All is very well.

I'm keeping both my colonies completely terrestrial now..although I do plan to try a 50/50 tank for breeding in the next few months. I've never found my kweichows showed much interest in water.

I should say that was true of my shanjing for years, despite always having a 50/50 tank. But now they seem to get wet all the time..so who knows.

My Kweichowensis is in a mostly terrestrial set up. I have noticed that occasionally it does like to soak in water to defecate or perhaps shed. Because of that I keep a decent sized (but not too deep) water dish in there as well.

Thanks everyone. Sometimes i find it hard to get a conclusive answer; it seems that each persons experience it quite different. As for mine, im going to leave the tank just the way it is (unless I see my guy going into his water dish alot more).

While I do agree that they spend much more of their time on the land, they do go in the water section. I have had the tank set up like this for a couple of months now and I haven't seen any problems. They go into the water section regularly. The water section isn't a very deep pool, but more like a a shore for a pond. The deepest part being 2 inches.

I've got a 50/50 tank which is 1 meter in length. I must admit I've got T. cf kweichowensis. At this moment it's 15 C in the room they're in and they still take a plunge from time ot time. I've made a section with cork bark which is completely dry. I'm using no lid.
