Enlarged Belly

Ok she's been in the fridge for awhile no and no passing any stones and no vet in my area who knows what they are or how to care for them...any suggestions?? Please help

You can keep her in the fridge as long as you like, generally axolotl are very happy in the fridge. I did read about someone who has always kept their axolotl in the salad drawer of the fridge ;)
How is your little axolotl behaving? Is she still eating? And finally , when you put the sand in her tank, did you replace all the water?

I can't think of anything else that I could recommend, do you have any local universities that keep amphibians or salamanders that could help? Or a local zoo? Any local reptile sellers/breeders that can point you in the direction of a specialist vet?

Yes I replaced the water as well I also called the game commission with no avail. What's the point in having one to watch if it's in the fridge?

The game commission? I know what you mean about axis sometimes being boring, they are usually very active at night.

Keep in mind as a responsible axolotl owner you put the wellbeing of your animal first, even if that means not being able to watch it, and I feel you're doing everything you can. Also you're doing your part for the species did you know that axoltols are critically endangered in the wild? You're helping to preserve one which is a very special thing to do.

Keep looking for a solution, google and your phonebook are your friends now, as are the many other users on this forum who are more than happy to help you.

You may have to travel several hours to find a vet. I know there is one in Northern Virginia, which isn't an unreasonable drive from Gettysburg(we take fieldtrips up there in elementary school), but you may be able to find one closer. Just keep calling around.

Yeah the vet said call the game commission because we dont know what that is and I live in Florida now.

I don't think the Game Commission is going to help you in finding a vet.

Sorry, but I am going to ask again, is your axolotl eating and is it behaving normally?

I just fed her frozen bloodworms and she loved them but now she's HUGE and bloated. I took her out of the fridge because I thought all hope was gone. Should I put her back in? She was in for a week and a half. She's barely able to move around. I think the stone is blocking her somach and she can't digest the food.

Updates? How's your axie? I have two juveniles experiencing the exact same thing. Their bellies are identical to your pictures. Except that I'm 100% certain that I am the cause of their suffering, not tiny rocks. I took some bad advice from an employee at Petco and I fed them each 3 or 4 meal worms. Then I learned that they can't digest their hard exoskeletons and it has seemed to form some sort of blockage. They've each eaten bloodworms since and their appetites are healthy. But I'm afraid of giving them more food if they can't pass what is already in their bloated bellies. Did you have any luck after putting her in the refrigerator? I'm very anxious to see what transpired. I wish you the best of luck and I hope your axolotl gets better.

Hey, I don't know if you're still looking for a vet but I googled exotic vets for Florida and on this site there's quite the list: Herp Veterinarians - Florida

I don't know anything about Florida, distances, or whether that's even the right one. Geography was never my thing! But I hope there is a suitable one nearby that you can call. =]
