Er, Do Axoltols eat thier own poo?

Hi, I've been trying to keep the tank poop free but my daughter has just turned around and said she was watching one and he did a poo and then turned around and ate some. YUK, my chinchillas used to to that. Is this normal, maybe they want feeding again!

axies will eat anything they can fit in their mouths. I have never seen a axie do this, but I would not rule it out :S

I've seen it first hand. They see something, it might roll because of a little current in the tank, and gulp.

ha ha, that sounds like my daughter. She see's it, she eats it! They have a lot in common. Thank goodness she'd never tried to eat her poo though!

I love my little axies, and I love the way they look at me as if they think they are about to get food and I love the way they seem so facinated with my girls.

LMAO thats what mine did 1 time, they saw it rolling then ate it but thank god they spit it out! YUK! thats disgusting but just goes to show they dont care what they eat (rocks,poop,worms etc...)

Ah yes, coprophagy! It's pretty normal in the animal world, though usually seen the most in dogs. Rabbits do this and actually need it to survive (a bit different though, if you want to learn more google cecotropes). I can't remember if Chinchillas fall into that category too or if its just rabbits (lagomorphs).
