Eurycea longicauda help

Hi i recently found a longtail salamander in the road and decided to take him in. Ive cared for newts before and housed plethodon salamanders before. My setup is a ten gallon with a locking lid with a large waterbowl lined with rocks. The rest of the tank is covered with jungle bedding from the petstore and moss on top of that i also have three large rocks stacked to create caverns and two plants. I have a dripping system that drips down the rocks and eventually drains into the water bowl kepping it full throughout the day. I have been feeding the salamander small sized crickets and flightless drosophila flies but i have not seen him eat yet. The salamander is about 6 inches long right now. I am just wondering if the setup and diet is correct for this species and if anyone has any pointers on how to improve it please let me know. Thanks

Everything sounds OK. Are you dusting the flies and crickets with calcium and vitamin powder? The best time to drop food in the tank would be right before you turn out the lights. Since these are nocturnal creatures they are more likely to eat at this time.

Yes i have been dusting them before i feed him. Also do you know if they are easily kept in captivity

Dusting shouldn't really be necessary for salamanders, just gut load the crickets.
