Extremely bloated axolotl (photos)

Hi,
I come seeking for help/advice for a person who's not a friend of mine but an exotic pets forum mate; he left his axolotl with a little cousin while he was out of the city, horrible mistake. The little kid fed him with roast pork and then the poor axolotl got insanely bloated. As far as he says, is not a problem of water parameters, also the aquarium has a clean bottom, so no pebbles could've been swallowed. He's still out of his city, so he hasn't been able to do something for now.

I hope someone could be of any help for this cute little guy ):

I'm no expert...but please put that little guy down! That can't be good for his wellbeing, and I'm sure he's unable to pass/digest the pork.

The owner has recently said that the axolotl has been like 2 week like that... also said that he isn't floating and that he can swim normally.

Get him to a vet NOW. There is something very wrong with that axie.

Do you know of any exotic vets around where you are? If not, there is a thread on here you can search for that might be helpful.

I'm not trying to be rude, but that is a long time to do nothing but fridge. It breaks my heart to see. Any reason why the owner is not being more responsive?

I have to agree - that looks like a very serious case of water retention. I'm no vet, but that extent of water retention is either caused by or is leading to organ failure - I would not wait.

I agree with both of you, and I still don't know what was the owner thinking, it breaks my heart to see him in that state. If there's any news about him I'll come to update. The owner only excuses himself saying he's out of the city...

Poor baby. It breaks my heart to see an axxie so unwell.

This may, unfortunately, be a case of 'you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make it drink.' I really hope the owner gets some answers soon.

Okay. I just wanted to say that it's been really kind of you to be trying to help this other person out. I don't think I read your post thoroughly enough to understand the situation prior to my first post.

I hope the poor little guy pulls through. Just wondering....If the other person refuses to do anything, isn't this considered animal cruelty?
