Eye problem

Thanks for your kind replies!
And aaargh!! Rosie too now has it on one of her gills! So both axies are having salt baths twice a day now. May try Joao's idea of putting some salt in their tank, but am worried it may harm their skin? And I will give them both a bath in tapwater without dechlorinator. Must say am really nervous about doing this, as it's not a method that has been tried many times for safety. Maybe I could get some anti-bacterial medicine for axies from an aquarium shop, as long as the medicine is on the axolotl.org list for axie safe medicines? But also this has now been going on for such a long time, maybe I should take them to a vet? But then again, that would stress them even more...huh, what a difficult situation!

Try to post a picture so we can see and advise you better.Good luck.

Fab news!!I used Joao's idea sort of, and Rosie is 100% fine again, and Axelina only has tiny bit of fungus left in her eyes! Am so relieved! Ok, so what I did was put them in salt bath, but I only added water conditioner/dechlorinator after they had already been in the bath 1-2 minutes. So the first 1-2 minutes they were in tapwater with chlorine etc present, and only then I put a drop of water conditioner in to get rid of chlorine etc. Seems to work real well!

I´m glad to know that your axies are doing better, and yes sometimes we just have to chose a solution adjusted to our problem, there is not a way to solve our problems but several ways.

Aaaargh!Axelina has now got fungus in 2 gills and at the tip of her tail, as well as her eyes. I stopped salt baths, and started on MelaFix 2 days ago.( I only put MelaFix 1/3 of what is recommended for fish, as I know axies are more sensitive). Will continue salt baths with tap water, as well as Melafix, but worried now. Her immune system must be very bad. She swims and eats, tho.

I advise that you should to take her out of the tank, clean the tank, and put it with new fresh water, so it will be fungus free, and treat her out of the tank , you can also remove some fungus with your fingers or some tweezers. good luck

Oops, some posts got deleted. But to cut the long story short, I took Axelina to see a vet. (I made another thread about her medication). But I also noticed her tank water is getting really green. I change 25% of the water every second day now, but the water just keeps getting greener. Could this water be causing this fungus? Is it some bacteria? Or is it algae thats growing too much?Anybody know??
Maybe I do have to clean it all, even tho that will kill all the good bacteria too??? Axelina can stay in the fridge for a while, but then she would have to go back in to an uncycled tank. Huh, such a difficult situation...

Update. Axelina's fungus is a lot better, so methylene blue is working

. I put her in a bath 10 mins a day, with little methylene blue in it. It has definatly made her fungus disappear a lot.She only has a bit of fungus on her eyes and 1 gill, but its not a lot. Yippee!! But she is very weak, doesn't want to move much. She is finally getting more curious about what is happening around her, instead of just sleeping all the time. She is looking around, and sniffing things around her. She also wanted to swim, but was still too weak to lift herself to swim. She can walk a bit, tho. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my little darling will keep improving and be her happy self one day soon

well recently I brought home two axies without any limbs and they were all covered in fungus not eating the person who had them was about to end their life , but as I tend to say it ain´t over until the fat axie sings, well they were not eating and were really thin, I put them under tap water , gave them a myxazin bath and picked the fungus with tweezers, after a week doing this every day they got better , glad to say that they are eating as they were in a food contest and all of their limbs are growing back, the person want them back, but sorry too late got attached to them got keep them. Just to share a story...

Joao, so great to hear those 2 axies are doing well now. U did so well! And definatly don't give them back to their original owner, they don't seem to have a slightest idea about how to look after a pet!

And then Axelina news!! Yippee!! After her long battle with fungus and bad health, with many times I thought she is not gonna make it...She is healthy now!!For about a week now she has been getting better and better, and gettin more energetic and happy. And today even the last bit of fungus has gone! Hurrah! Am sooo proud of her. She is so full of life now, swimming, running, bubble-riding,jogging, playing. She is so happy to be alive, it's so obvious. She doesn't communicate with me much yet, tho.Think she is still sulking at me for putting her in the horrid medicine baths. But that's ok, I love her. My little Princess Axelina
