This is one of the joys of living in the woods. During the fall, hordes of new Ambystoma laterale (Blue-Spotted Salamander) that were born earlier in the summer start to gather around the large power-pole light in our yard. I will go out on my little night-walks and I may spend nearly an hour gathering these little gems up out of the yard and relocating them to safe places in the woods. I don't want them getting caught up in the fall yard cleanup. I may find one, two dozen a night and move them to the woods a few acres away. I did this perhaps 8-10 times this fall before the numbers dwindled to one or two. How much fun is this!
