I just rescused a Fire Belly newt and it appears to be seriously malnourished. He (it) is very thin and I can see his spine.

I was told he would not eat, but after I cleaned and rescaped the tank he is eating. I would like to try and "fatten" him up a bit faster, so he looks heathly again. Any suggestions?!

(He came with newt/salamander pelletts, and currently eating)

I'm new to newts, but want to give this little guy a better life.

Live diced earthworms will do wonders for him. Get him off the pellet food and onto live items (earthworms, white worms, grindal worms, maggots, etc) and frozen fish foods.

since i'm dutch, I have no idea what pellets are...can someone explain me?

They are little sticks (like rabbit food pellets) but they are made of shrimp, worms, and other things for newts.

Do you have access to live food of the sort available for fish in petshops? If so try Daphnia and - best of all - small amounts of tubifex.

If not, get a culture of white worm through the post.
