Very nice. I like your use of containers to plant the vegetation in, allowing you to keep the overall layer of gravel in the tanks thin and thus easier to keep clean. Do you often need to clean debris out of the plant containers due to the large amount of gravel in them (ie - does newt waste and uneaten food ever build up and then settle in them)?

Thanks for the comment! Once a month I put the pots (with the gravel and the plant in it) under the tap and wash them off, but they don't have much waste in them because the tanks are large for only one newt and I also clean them often, so generally there isn't a lot of debris in the tank.

I like your use of the containers too. Looks nice, clean and easy to maintain.

Great looking tank!

with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
