Feeding blackworms to terrestrial sals

Okay. I have wondered this for a while. How do folks give blackworms to terrestrial phased salamanders? Do you put them in a bowl with a bit of water or do you hand-feed with forceps?

I use a small plastic lid and a little tiny bit of water.

I've never had much luck with forceps feeding with blackworms; they are too small and wiggly.

Unfortunately, most feeding dishes do not hold them in, so they all crawl out. Worse yet, blackworms + soil = major foulness, which has been known to poison the sals.

I have 2 solutions to this problem. First, I put the dish of worms on a bare area of the tub, so that the escaped blackworms crawl under the dish and are easy to wipe up off the plastic. If I'm using a paper-towel setup, I clean the towels frequently. Second, I have devised some DEEP feeding dishes that the blackworms do not normally escape from. If I get time, I'll try to take a photo and post it.
 
Here is a photo of the dish I use for blackworms in terrariums. The worms usually stay put. It is a frozen food dish from Stouffers Lean Cuisine, and I glued in rocks to make sure small newts can climb out easily.

Good question Greg!
I usually fed my Eft's individually using a needle to hold the small little blood worms.
I always like to make sure that all of my newts eat about the same amount of food. That is why
I like to feed them individually.
But I like your set up Jennifer and your suggestion Ed!

    with axolotls would I basically have to keep buying and buying new axolotls to prevent inbred breeding which costs a lot of money??

    Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

    Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
