I hope this doesn't sound crazy - but - I have been told that some people feed their axies on tinned/moist cat food! The 'chunky' kind. Dog food is lacking in nutrients but cat food has all sorts of vitamins and minerals added.

So, I just wondered what other people thought.

Do you know if there are ingredients that may be poisonous to axies, or would it be a good food (even though its cooked), and would they even accept it?

Seems to me that if it's OK, a LOT of feeding problems would be solved straight off...

I would recommend against it. Cat foods are high in proteins and often fortified with vitamins and minerals (as are dog foods) formulated for mammalian predators. I can't find nutritional analysis online but I would imagine you might have difficulty with hyper- or hypovitaminosis or improper calcium:phosphorus ratio. There's also the fact that these foods tend to be covered in oils/gravies that will really make your tank water go bad quickly.

I wouldn't even give my pesky cats most tinned cat food as it tends to have a minute amount of meat in it...having said that they are not in my good books once again so who knows what i might end up feeding them!!

My full sympathies Bellabelloo. I think my cats are up to volume 7, chapter 38 of my bad books - the good book is collecting dust somewhere and has never got past page 1.

Hi SarahandRich,

- The axies may not mind eating it (My greedy little axies will eat anything smaller than their maw that happens by ;)), but it would have an adverse effect on your water quality as Abrahm has stated which they certainly would mind. I don't feed my cats tinned cat food any more as it smells so terrible.

By the time you trove through the can looking for edible bits for the axies - you might as well have bought fresh produce.

More trouble than it's worth I think.
