Feeding newly captured Noto's

Hi everyone. I recently came across 4 Noto's (I only know this name..and this site becasue I have spent the last 24 hours trying to identify this amazing creature) while camping. They accidentally swam into my homemade minnow trap while it was sitting in the Steamykil lake. They made the 4 hour trip home perfectly and they are now living in a 10-15 gallon (sorry not sure...I'm ver very new to this) fish tank, filled 3/4's of the way to the top, a pebble floor, a quiet filter and a rocky platform just above the water line. I do have one issue....feeding. I went out and collected some earthworms, chopped them up and placed them on the platform but the Noto's didnt seem too interested. Tomorrow I plan on buying some bloodworms to try. Should I be dropping the earth worms into the water? What about the blood worms?

They would be more inclined to eat food that is placed in the water. They will readily take chopped earthworms, frozen bloodworms, or live blackworms. With newly acquired notos, movement really seems to get them interested in feeding. Don't be surprised though if it takes them a few days to finally calm down enough to start feeding.

Thanks Justin. I brought them home on Sunday and it's of course, now Wednesday. My problem with dropping the earthworms in the water was that they sank right to the bottom and the Noto's completey ignored them. The poor things had to go through a second tank change which I'm sure affected them more. I cant wait to try the bloodworms after work today.

Before I found this site, my tank was semi aquatic with only a 3 inch deep pool to one side, I was able to correct my mistake within hours after reading on here. The seem very happy in there with more water but I know they are missing their "hide-outs" from the lake. I need to populate the tank with some plants but again, I'm very new to this and I dont have much of a green thumb as it is.....are there any "easy" plants that I can possibly grab from my neighborhood aquarum store/Pet-not-so-smart and drop them in? Or is the process a lot more difficult than that?

Well, I was semi-successful at hand feeding my little guys/gals chopped up worms from the yard. Out of the 4, I have a Noto that is substantially larger than the rest. He (I assume) is very outgoing and he wrestled with my tweezers for the food...he grabbed the worm chunk and did a bit of a death roll (like an aligator) untill I was able to release my grip on the tweezers. One would not eat at all and the other 2 swallowed the chunks whole but promptly spit the food out. What gives? I made sure to follow the worm chopping guide and the chunks were portioned to their size but they didnt seem to like the taste of the earthworms. I have been very busy but I now know that time is of the essence to get my babies fed and will be going out tonight to search for bloodworms. I hope it works.
