I sometimes feed my axolotls snails, but when they eat them they also eat the shells, is this bad?

I imagine it would depend on the size and shape of the shells.

What kind of snails are you feeding them? How big? Some pictures would help.

I just get feeder snails from the store. They are not that big, I took a picture next to a ping pong ball so u can get a relevant size to them. Sorry the water is a little cloudy my amonia is a lil high, im currently bringing it down though. My axolotls are also about 5" in length. Thanks

do water changes until the ammonia is 0. I woudln't recommend feeding snails, but at least they are not mts.

ok ill probably stop feeding them after these, i gave them snails last time and they loved them but again they were eating the shells and i didnt think this was safe, and ya I am doing water change everyday to get the ammonia down....thanks

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
