Okay so purchased these axolotls today and told one was male one was female and the male was a successful breeder (not that I am worried as I don't want them for that) but after some searching I am sure they are both girls? these are the best photos I could get so hope they are okay for people to tell :) First 3 are my Melanoid Copper and the last 2 are my leucistic white

first one is female
second one looks like an immature male to me

Yupp I'm gonna agree with everyone else and say they all look female to me!

Just for my penny's worth, I would say from body shape that you have a pair ;)

That is axies for you. ;)

If one day, you find spermatophores in your tank, you have at least one male. If you find eggs, you have at least one female. If you find fertile eggs, you have both. :)

(Actually, I haven't heard of eggs without a male in the tank. But spermatophores in my male-only tank is quite common.)

I had one that we called a girl for years. Suddenly, at around 6 years old, "her" body slimmed down and He developed the pronounced vent swelling you expect from a male. So yeah, sexing is tricksy sometimes.

Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation

Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
