Pretty sweet crib! The only thing you might consider is adding some plants of varying height, and adding a small hide. Otherwise I think it's an awesome tank.
I don't see any island. Does your newt have somewhere to come out of water if it wants to, like a little piece of floating cork bark or something similar?
As Kaysie says, some plants closer to the surface would be nice.
Hey thanks for the response! Good to know somebody thinks it's cool
As for hides however, there is like an abyss behind the driftwood with the moss (I think) on it which is heavily vegetated above. I know that's where they like to hide
Also I used to have the wood breaking the surface but after observation, they never left the water at all so I raised the water level and they don't seem to have a problem, but the taller plants sounds like a good idea.
Not necessarily but if you’re wanting to continue to grow your breeding capacity then yes. Breeding axolotls isn’t a cheap hobby nor is it a get rich quick scheme. It costs a lot of money and time and deditcation
Would Chinese fire belly newts be more or less inclined towards an aquatic eft set up versus Japanese . I'm raising them and have abandoned the terrarium at about 5 months old and switched to the aquatic setups you describe. I'm wondering if I could do this as soon as they morph?
