Hi there guys!

I adopted a 2ish year old axolotl about a month ago. This is my first ever axie so I read up a lot and hes doing great! When I first took him in, he was very skinny and his gill were TINY. In the past month hes filled out quite a bit, but I would love if you guys could take a look at the before and after pictures and give me feedback. I would like to know how he compares to normal, healthy axies and if I should still be trying to boost his weight, or trying to maintain for now.

Thanks for any advice!!

The first two attached pictures are the before, the third is the current. :)

Setup/Details:

  • 20gal long tank w/sand substrate and standard filtration system
  • Cooling fan keeping the tank stead at 68F
  • Eating Zeigler Grower Pellets, nightcrawlers, bloodworms
  • Also has 1 feeder guppy and 3 glass shrimp in with him that he hasn't figured out how to eat

I would say definitely try to boost his weight, at 2 years of age, they're usually pretty plump (stomach wider than head). He is a male so He isn't going to be very rounded at the stomach, but his stomach should definitely be a bit wider than the head :)
How often do you feed him?

I feed him one nightcrawler every night cut up into pieces. I usually put a few pellets in as well but he seems to prefer the worms.

He looks good. I would slow down on the feeding a little. At that age I don't feed much more than twice a week.
