Flat stone

Hi all,

I heard that if you would like to breed axolotls it is best to put a flat piece of stone in the tank, were the male can deposit his spermatophore on.

-How big should this flat stone be?

-And will the male always deposit it on that flat stone or will he just choose a place he likes?

The tank is 100x40x40 CM or 40x16x16 inch

The male will probably place it where he likes. It's very difficult to get animals to do things exactly the way you want them too.

I don't have a flat stone, and still get spermatophores all the time.

Thank you for your answers,

@ Joan S.
Do you also have females in the same tank. And if yes, will they/are they able to pick up the spermatophores?

I have one female with 2 males (until my juveniles grow up), and she did lay eggs, but none developed. I didn't see her pick one up specifically, but she was showing behavior that she did. And then the eggs showed up, so I assume she did. The dominant male did try to force the smaller male into picking one up. Evidently they don't care who picks up the spermatophores, as long as someone does.
