Floating axies

Hi, it's me again.

I have a question - I just found my axie with his back legs on the ground and "floating" upwards with his top half.

His gills were back and didn't look in anyway unhappy - is this normal behaviour. I've rescued him less than a week ago and I'm not sure what behaviours are normal and what aren't. He also keep swimming to the surface for little gulps of air, maybe 3 -ish times a day.

Water and surroundings are reading fine - should I be worried?

do you have a read on water parameters?

swimming for air is normal as long as he doesn't do it all the time...

and are you sure he's floating? it sounds like he's "standing" sort of like a dog... they tend to do funny postures all the time

While axolotls have gills, they also possess rudimentary lungs, and use them as needed. Mine gulp air about once an hour.

Wait til they do something really weird, like yawn.

Yawn? haha. I can't wait.

I thought it odd, tho, that Foley comes to the front of the tank to watch TV. Maybe I'm not imagining that one then. haha

Probably not. Mine used to watch the computer a lot. I think they're attracted to the color and movement.
